Hair Baths may make the child prone to colds
Question: I have heard that frequent hair baths may make the child prone to colds. Should hair baths be avoided during the last 3 months of pregnancy? Can I bathe with cold water during pregnancy?
Hair baths are not harmful. Hot or lukewarm baths as per habit allay the fear of catching colds. It is necessary to wash hair once a week in order to maintain personal hygiene. If you are accustomed to bathing with cold water, continue to do so even during pregnancy. On the other hand, if you are used to hot or warm water, do not use water which is cool enough to make you shiver involuntarily. If warm water is not available, be satisfied with a wash (hands, face, feet).
It is not advisable to swim (whether in a pool, river or sea) during pregnancy. This increases the risk of infection to the child. The mother (to be) may also catch a cold. After the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy, it becomes difficult to maintain bodily balance due to expansion in the abdominal region.
